As one of the only official three Orbiter Vehicle test articles, the Pathfinder played a pivotal role in the ground testing of various technologies, earning a noteworthy place in aviation history. With its striking orange hue, the tank is the first of its kind to ever be created and is adorned with two casings for Shuttle Rocket Boosters, a rare sight that can only be viewed in four locations around the world.
The U.S. Space and Rocket Center is also home to a fascinating piece of equipment that not many people know about, the MPTA-098, a propulsion engine that played a crucial role in the Space Shuttle program.
This engine is actually one of only three remaining test articles for the Space Shuttle, and it had its fair share of setbacks before reaching its incredible achievements.
